The students from Room 5 spent two days in Auckland with a busy programme of events. The bus first stopped at Botany Downs for two hours of ice skating, then the afternoon at the War Memorial Museum, with all busily taking photos for the PHOTO ESSAY they will be creating back at school on New Zealand's involvement in conflict and the ripple effect on New Zealanders at home. Later the class arrived at the Maritime Museum for dinner and their overnight stay. The focus was on IMMIGRATION TO NZ IN THE 1850's and included a harbour cruise and a museum educator talking through the immigration experience of the times. With the class sleeping in a replica of steerage class, the experience was very real and should result in some great creative writing once back at school. After a great night's sleep and breakfast at the museum, the class visited the Sir Peter Blake exhibition and then made a short walk to the ferry terminal for the cruise over to Rangitoto Island. The hour long tramp to the summit was uneventful, but the view from the top magnificent. We caught the return ferry back to Auckland and then the bus back to school. A great couple of days!!!

ICE CREAMS FUNDRAISING

Room 5 has had a lot of fun over two days making ice creams for sale across the school. Demand was so great on the first day, we had to leave some classes until the next day so we could restock our ice cream. We made over 150 ice creams and after paying our expenses, made a healthy profit of $192.60, a FANTASTIC effort! The class demonstrated wonderful organisational skills throughout, co-operated well with each other, were involved in the finance aspects working out the expenses and profit, volunteered willingly for deliveries to classrooms, and we got to taste the product with a few extra sauces and marshmallows added in. Great learning with a great taste!
