School ANZAC Ceremony

At our final school Assembly for term 1, the school attended a moving ANZAC ceremony in our auditorium beginning with the Maeroa Pasifika group performing, then the school sang our National Anthem, a moving slide show (created by Mr Hills) was viewed on New Zealand's participation in wars around the world, we had a reading from our Deputy Principal Ms Woods, the school sang "Forever Strong", and finished with representatives from each class presenting their amazing banners to decorate a tree. The ceremony was led by Ben Needham from Room 5, and Alanis Hayes from Room 4.

The Kahikatea Spelling Challenge team has won this years Team Spelling Challenge. The team comprised Petria Fitzgerald, Shadrach Tuimaseve and Aiden Scott-Nanthasack and are all students in Room 5. They beat out six other teams from the school syndicates. Congratulations Team!

Room 5 had many of its students competing in the 2013 School Triathlon and placings were achieved by Carl who crossed the finish line in 3rd place in the Boys Individual section, and Nicole who came 5th in the Girls Individual section. Brianna (R6) was the winner of the Girls event with Tori (R4) coming second.We await the announcement at a future Assembly as to the winner overall for particpation points and points for placings combined. A very successful day was had by all the Kahikatea contestants.

Waikato Balloon Festival- 2013

Animal Enrichment visit to Hamilton Zoo



Our class visited the Hamilton Zoo as part of our Science study on Animal Enrichment and had two informative talks, one from Ken in the classroom, and then one from Vanessa at the Tiger enclosure. Once back at school we will be designing and creating our own animal enrichment projects. Thanks to the parent helpers today who accompanied us on our trip around the zoo.

2013 Swimming Sports

On Wednesday 27th February, the school assembled at the pool for the annual Swimming Sports. Once again, Kahikatea performed outstandingly with a number of swimmers winning their finals. Students from Room 5 who competed were Carl Stephens, Nicole Allen, Aimee Hudson, Jakob Thomas, Liam Barrett, Petria Fitzgerald, Joaquina Romera, Alex Carter, Fallon Goodson, Ben Needham and Libby Williams. As usual, we had to wait until the Team points results were announced at Assembly, and Kahikatea was duly announced amid great excitement, that we had WON!!! Great fun was had by all, a successful day.

Room 5 had fun creating animations using modelling clay and plasticene in creating a little scenario relating to Virtues. The two above were created by Phaeroa and Petria, and Tayla and Aaria. Enjoy!
