Summer Nights Musical Production

The school mini-musical production saw three Room 8 students in key roles in "Summer Nights" with Kayla in the lead role of Sandy, Cailyn as one of the Pink Ladies, and Ben (who climbed out of his sick bed for the performances). The cast performed "on tour" for two of our contributing schools in the morning, our school in the afternoon, and for the public at night. A busy day for the cast and teachers who supported.

WaiMaths Teams

The teams from Maeroa in the WaiMaths Problem Solving competition featured students mostly from Room 8 and achieved placings in the 2018 edition of this event. The Year 7 team of Weiyi Jiang, Kalen Lake and Matthew Emett were placed 5th, with just one point separating 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th; although there was some disappointment that they could have achieved higher. Our Kahikatea Team were superb in their performance at the 2018 Maeroa Kapa Haka Festival, ably led by students from Room 8 with Cailyn performing the Karanga, and Anaru speaking the Whaikorero. The team chanted "Waikato Te Awa" before performing with all the actions for "E Noho Tuheitia". A very proud group of teachers looked on, and our students regarded their performance with pride. Netball Finalists 2018

Room 8 students played their way through the inter-class Netball tournament to reach the final in games held during Sports breaks throughout term 3. They won all their pool games, and beat their rivals in the quarter finals and semi finals. However, they came up against a tough team to beat in the final playing one of the Sports Classes' teams, and were convincingly defeated. The team also achieved a 100% record in Fair Play. Wellington trip 2018

Students from Room 8 accompanied Mr Metcalfe and students from Rooms 9, 10, 19 and 23 on this years DLU trip to Wellington where the group stayed at the YHA and visited Te Papa, Capital E, Parliament, Ferg's Rock Wall, Zealandia, WETA, the Great War Exhibition, The Gallipoli Exhibition, and Pukeahu (The National War Memorial), as well as attending the Last Post Ceremony at 5pm at the War Memorial.
Three visits to Capital E saw them create the news programmes "ToNightline". and "Once Upon A Crime", as well as creating 2D animations at the Media Lab. At night, students were faced with Thinking challenges contributed by each student, went to the movies, and had dinner at Ghengis Khan's Mongolian BBQ. Parent support was from Dani's mum Tracey, Anaru's mum Maarama, and Thomas B's dad Chris. A great trip to be remembered for a long time.
