Year 8 Graduation Social

Our Year 8's were all looking glamorous last night when they attended the Year 8 Graduation Social in the school gymnasium. They enjoyed all the social dances and the beautiful supper. Pictured below are the fantastic group of students who are all leaving the class for high school next year and will all be missed!

Three Room 5 boys who were the team for Kahikatea, won the inter-team Chess Championships held at school in December. They were Amirkhon Askarov, Chayse Paikea and Max Stephens. Well done boys!

Jasmine wins top award

Jasmine Nimmo (Year 7) from Room 5, was presented at the school's final Prize Giving Assembly with an award for achieving the highest results in Academic Competitions across the school for 2015. Congratulations Jasmine! She achieved a High Distinction in NSW English, Distinction in NSW Maths, and Excellence in Otago Problem Solving.

Year 8's visit to Waikato University

 The Year 8 students from Kahikatea had the opportunity to attend a two hour session at a Waikato University computer lab to learn how to create a game. Room 5 students are pictured above developing their game, which they all got to take away with them on a USB to further develop at home. The group worked extremely well and were praised by the lecturers as being a very receptive group. This event is to become an annual event. "This Is My Song" musical production

The School production "This Is My Song" has gone on stage with its first performances today and this will be followed by other performances during the week. It features many Room 5 students in major roles and as dancers. The story was written by class teacher Colin Metcalfe along with a previous teacher at the school, Mrs Kuini Thompson, and revised by Director Dionne Sasso.

Tuesday 20th October saw the annual school Athletic Sports held at Porritt Stadium in Hamilton where students from Room 5 competed in the Kahikatea team against other teams from across the school. Success was achieved by Chloe Athchison who won the Year 7 Girls Cricketball Throw and was 2nd in the Long Jump. Ned Fitzgerald achieved 3rd place in the Year 8 Boys High Jump, and Loren Williams achieved 2nd place in the Year 7 Girls High Jump. Well done Room 5!

Keenan wins School Oratory Competition

Congratulations Keenan! He has gone on from winning the Kahikatea Team Oratory final to win the overall School title after the finals were held in the school auditorium last night in front of parents, visitors, teachers and families. Keenan's speech topic was "With money you can buy all the friends you want, but they are never worth the price". The Team's other competitor, Ethan Murray from Room 6, was runner up. A successful night for the Team! Keenan now goes on to represent the school at the inter-Intermediate School competition.

Keenan wins Team Oratory Competition

Keenan has won the Kahikatea team's Year 8 Oratory Competition in front of a large audience of parents and families in the school auditorium. Keenan spoke on the topic of "With money you can buy all the friends you want, but they are never worth the price". Emily, Max and Loren also competed in the Year 7 category, and Natalie unfortunately was ill and couldn't make the Year 8 final.

Kahikatea Team win the school Spelling Challenge

The Kahikatea team comprising students from Rooms 5 (Chayse and Tina) and Partiv (Room 4) have won the school Team Spelling Challenge in a close finish with Totara team. Another Room 5 student, Natalie, was the Super Speller reserve. Well done Kahikatea!

Georgia is No 1 in NZ

Georgia Hallen has achieved her goal of being No 1 in NZ for her age group in the National Diving Championships held in Auckland over the weekend. The Room 5 student won 4 Gold medals and was presented with the trophy previously held by NZ Olympians. Well done Georgia- we are proud of you!

Production dancers join rehearsals

The rehearsals for the upcoming school production of "This Is My Song" have taken another step forward with the addition of the dancers, who up until this week have been rehearsing separately. They have been working on their choreography with dance teacher Ms Russell, and the three girls from Room 5 (Emily, Loren and Bianca) feature prominently in the many routines featured throughout the show.

2015 Cross Country/Road Race

The annual school Cross Country for students was held on an overcast but dry day and saw success for many of the Room 5 class who finished the course and accomplished their personal goals or bettered them. The championship course for Boys was won by Campbell Brown, a sensational result for this Room 5 student. Photos of students from Room 5 are below.
