School Production

The first mini-Production for 2011 went on stage this week with a number of Room 5 students taking part. Assisting with direction of "The Invasion from Planet Zorgon" was Hannah Jenkin, and performing were Kayla Polley, Anna Butcher, Jessica Needham, Mirella Willson, Yaksh Kataria, Lincoln Swinerd, Jessica Forkert and Liana Scott-Nanthasack.

Maeroa Glee Club

The Maeroa Glee Club performed for the first time before a school audience this week. The group included our own Jessica Forkert, and they were GREAT!

Churros Españoles

Nuestra Sala 5 estudiantes de todo pasado un período de sesiones en la sala de Alimentos con la Sra. Johnston crear los españoles delicadeza "Churros" como parte de nuestro trabajo currículo Internacional de las Lenguas. Estaban deliciosas. Fantastico!

Churros Recipe
Ingredients
1 Cup water
50 g butter, cut into cubes
3 T sugar
1 Cup flour
3 eggs.
Oil
Icing sugar
Cinnamon

Method
1. Heat the oil in a fry pan.
2. While the oil is heating put the water, butter and sugar in a saucepan and bring to the boil.
3. As soon as it boils stir in the flour, beating well, until it forms a ball
4. Take the mixture off the stove and cool slightly.
5. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating the mixture each time until the egg is completely absorbed.
6. Put into a forcing bag with a star nozzle and pipe long strips into the very hot oil, cutting the dough with a knife at the end of the dough strip.
7. When golden brown on one side, turn over very carefully and cook the other side.
8. Drain on paper towels then dredge in icing sugar and cinnamon.

Room 5 have many students actively involved in winter sport each weekend playing for their school or club in Netball, Hockey, Rugby or Football. Above are photos of our participants.

Team Spelling Challenge Champions 2011

The Kahikatea team were successful in retaining the trophy for the Great Teams' Spelling Challenge held in the auditiorium this week. The successful team were Jessica Needham, Eden French-Putu (both Room 5) and Kauri Tearaura (Room 6). Teams from across the school compete against each other in speed events, spelling backwards, choosing words of different points value, and alternate letters. Over the rounds, teams drop out, until the final two teams are left. The reserve "Super Speller" for our team was Sheridan Tuimaseve, (also from Room 5).
