The Trans-Tasman Battle
Room 5 has had a friendly trans-Tasman rivalry with our Australian born Deputy Principal this term due to the early successes of the Black Caps over Australia in cricket. However, we were made "to eat humble pie" when the Aussies defeated NZ in the one day series and first test. This came in the form of Mr D publishing clever little notices about us in the daily notices. Room 5 decided to get back at him by decorating his office in pro-NZ posters, flags, and whatever we could get hold of at the time. We also provided him with a cake (our "humble pie"). After the decorating, a group of our Room 5 students lay in wait for him to return and duly sang our National Anthem to him when he walked in the door. The students were Jessica Needham, Makenzee Wells, Jessica Forkert and Anna Butcher. We eagerly await the rugby season.
Saturday Softball Team
The Maeroa Saturday Softball team were runners-up in the Minor Intermediate Grade tournament Final on Saturday and the team featured many players from Room 5. They were captained by Zane Disher, and included Laish Grant, Ezra Sa'u, Jacob Goodwin and Devon Davies. The team was coached by Mr Metcalfe. The team actually scored more runs than their opposition (18-16) at the end of the 4th innings, when the game finished, but the opposition protested to the organisers, and won the final on a technicality because the game had inched past the expected finish time of 12 noon, and so the score had to be taken back as from the end of the 3rd innings, where Peachgrove were ahead. Although we had to accept the decision of arbitration, we were not happy, and believe we had a moral victory.

2010 School Swimming Sports
A fantastic day for all. Our Kahikatea team cleaned up big time in the races. Final points were announced Friday's assembly and as we expected, Kahikatea were far to strong for the other teams, and we won easily the points (155 pts)for coming first in the event. As well, we were tied equal first with 51 points for team support and display of Virtues for Fair Play. Kahikatea members Holly Young (Yr 8 R4), Josh Allen (R5 Yr 7)Jonno Barnes (R5 Yr 7) and Libby Stevenson (R4 Yr 7) were age group Champions or runners-up.
